Prayer for Special Times

"Looking at them Jesus said to them, 'With people this is impossible,

but with God all things are possible'" (Matthew 19:26).

Heavenly Father, as a member of the human race, I, too often view the circumstances of life, especially the difficult, trying, and painful ones, through the lens of this sinful, self-absorbed culture. The rich, young ruler, who came to Jesus, certainly could have walked away from that encounter a new man transformed by God's grace through faith. However, he loved his wealth and life more than he wanted what Jesus offered. Lord, help me to be mindful constantly that what this world offers, in all its variety and attraction, is nothing compared to what you offer. Remind me every day and often throughout the day that "eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love him" (1 Corinthians 2:9). Help me to remember that no matter what I face here on the earth, whether difficult decisions or painful heartbreak or devastating tragedy, though the way through or out seems impossible to me, all things are possible with you. You are always greater than life's finest moments, and you are always stronger than life's worst moments. No situation I could possibly face is the least bit intimidating to you or the least bit confusing to you or the least bit hard for you. Help me to remember you in all of your wisdom and power. Help me to turn to you first in every situation and circumstance. Help me to learn the lessons I must in order to be more like you. I trust you, Lord, and, in you, my faith is strengthened. In Jesus' name, Amen.

When Facing the Impossible
